The videos and all other contents of Dr.App are produced by Angel Productions and producer/director Stephen Engelhard. The academic consultant is Prof John Wakeford of The Missenden Centre. Many of the videos feature drama scripts by Mark Holloway and camerawork and technical advice from Rob Nixon. There are too many actors to list individually, but the two who appear most are Heather Darcy who plays Rachel and John McAndrew who plays her supervisor Jim Alton.
Four of the videos were produced in partnership with Birkbeck, University of London (The Good Supervision Video, The Good Presentation Video, The ‘Should I do a PhD?’ Video and the original version of The Good Viva Video). Others were produced in similar partnerships with The Open University (The Good Upgrade Video), Royal Holloway, University of London (The Good Networking Video, The ‘What Next?’ Video and The Good Writing Video) with the Royal Veterinary College (The Professional Doctorate Video) University College London (The Bad Supervision Video) and The Missenden Centre (The PhD Survival Video).
We are grateful for feedback and advice, especially from StJohn Smith of Quickclass, Dr Laura Christie of Royal Holloway and Simone Apel of Nottingham Trent University, and from a number of pilot testers as we developed Dr.App, originally as a mobile learning app and more recently in its current web-based format.
