NEW 2018

"... very impressed with the quality of the production … tackles the importance and benefits of networking, both formally and informally and a young researcher’s reluctance to join in. This can be a very real issue for some young researchers."

The Good Networking Video -
engaging with the academic community

Doctoral students need to build relationships with others working in their fields and beyond. Good supervisors encourage this. But it can be challenging and takes many out of their comfort zone. The Good Networking Video will help research students understand how and why they should spread their wings and start engaging with the wider academic world. This video in our series for doctoral students was made in cooperation with Royal Holloway, University of London.

The complete video is available in our  NEW  mobile app, Dr.App, or as a separate half hour video.  Ask us about a preview or purchasing a licence.

Based on engaging drama scenes, expert interviews and stories of current PhD students, The Good Networking Video addresses:
  • Why networking matters
  • How to make good use of conferences
  • Networking in informal settings
  • Using social media and specialist online academic platforms
  • Being prepared for networking pitfalls and frustrations
The Good Networking Video was produced with advice from Professor John Wakeford, Director of the Missenden Centre for the Development of Higher Education.
